Salem Ranked Among Six Spookiest U.S. Cities According to TikTok

As Halloween approaches, the top haunted towns in the United States are getting ready to welcome visitors for a spooktacular time. 

According to a USA TODAY report, more than 97,000 posts have been tagged with #hauntedplaces on TikTok. Salem, Massachusetts, is one of those places, ranked among the top six spookiest U.S. cities per TikTok.

Regarded as one of the most well-known Halloween destinations in the United States, the community of Salem conveys its history through a focus on the 17th-century Salem witch trials. Salem is also recognized for its role as the filming location for Hocus Pocus. 

Writing for USA TODAY, Kathleen Wong noted that must-visit attractions in Salem include the Salem Witch Trials Memorial and the Salem Witch Museum. 

Salem's Haunted Happenings is one of the largest Halloween celebrations in the world. Each year, more than a million people venture to Salem to explore the community's haunts and history during October. 

Along with Salem, Sleepy Hollow, New York; Savannah, Georgia; New Orleans, Louisiana; Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; and Portland, Oregon, were also named among America's most frightful cities and towns.
