Massachusetts State Police, in partnership with a business and the Police Activities League of Massachusetts, collaborated to distribute refurbished laptops to students in need across Brockton, Fall River, and New Bedford. The distribution is part of the police department's Excellence Initiative.

According to a Fall River Reporter story, Major Edward Blackwell – Troop D Commander, Troop D Community Liaison Jesse Walker III, the Massachusetts State Police Office of Recruitment and Diversity, the Police Activities League of Massachusetts, the All Scholastic Athletic Program, and AT&T gave 100 laptops to area students.

Massachusetts State Police and the Police Activities League of Massachusetts identified the students who would benefit most from the laptops to stay on top of schoolwork. This effort was funded by AT&T's five-year nationwide program dedicated to closing the digital divide through donations of laptops and software.

The distribution event was held at the Dennison Memorial Community Center. There, students and parents enjoyed pizza and had the opportunity to interact with troopers.
