Historic Salem House Named to Airbnb’s Top 10 Spookiest Rentals

A historic Salem, Massachusetts, property has been named to the top 10 list of Airbnb's spookiest rental property listings. 

Airbnb featured the Henry Derby House in Salem as an option for guests to experience paranormal encounters during their stays. The home was built in 1838 for Henry Derby, a tailor. It occupies Salem's McIntire district and is centrally located within walking distance to Salem's attractions and the T.

“This is an antique house over 180 years old. Do not expect it to look or feel like a hotel when you arrive,” notes the listing. “The stairs will creak. The windows will rattle when it's windy, and you may experience paranormal activity in the house during your stay.”

In addition to these potential spooky elements, this colonial-style home offers seven charming bedrooms and four bathrooms, along with an updated kitchen and baths.

According to Airbnb, the Henry Derby House is one of the most highly rated homes on Airbnb, based on the feedback of previous guests. As of Oct. 6, it has achieved a 4.9-star rating based on 337 reviews.
