The Malden Police Department has introduced a Do Not Knock Registry. The new registry empowers residents to prevent certain solicitors from approaching their homes.
According to a Patch of Malden report, the Do Not Knock Registry specifically restricts commercial soliciting but does not apply to religious, political, or charitable activities. Solicitors who ignore the registry and approach a property listed on it face a $300 fine and could lose their canvassing permit for up to a year.
Residents opting into the registry must agree to have their addresses published on the police department's website. They must also display signs at their homes that read “commercial canvassers and solicitors are prohibited.”
