As daylight hours shorten, Gloucester's farmers market, the Backyard Growcery, is now closing at 5:30 p.m. for the season. The weekly market is held on Wednesdays through Oct. 15 at Burnham's Field in downtown Gloucester and is presented by the Backyard Growers organization.
Free parking lot is available next to Burnham's Field, located at the end of Sargent Street. Street parking is available on several streets adjacent to the park.
The farmers market is dedicated to providing fresh, locally sourced food while supporting small-scale farms and fostering community connections through educational events such as free gardening workshops.
The market features a diverse range of vendors, including Cedar Rock Gardens, First Light Farm, High Tide Farm, Marshview Farm, and others. Occasional pop-up vendors representing North Shore food vendors and farmers will occur on market days.
Glouceter's Backyard Growcery accepts SNAP/EBT, WIC, and Senior Farmers Market Coupons. Organizers of the market are actively increasing the number of vendors accepting these benefits, along with offering a SNAP match program up to $5 called Market Mint.
