Legendary boxer Rocky Marciano's Brockton childhood home has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The designation was announced on Saturday, Sept. 20, for the Dover Street home where Marciano, who held the world heavyweight title from 1952 to 1956, grew up. He was renowned for his undefeated record, powerful punches, and relentless boxing style.

Ron Onesti of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame emphasized the importance of Marciano's legacy of perseverance and greatness. He stated to Boston 25 News, “A guy like Rocky has the lessons that the kids of today and future generations need to learn so that it will help them get to their greatness in life.”

Marciano's life came to a tragic end in 1969, when he died in a plane crash just a few days before turning 46.

Marciano's home now offers a tour featuring memorabilia from his boxing career, according to Boston 25 News.
