The Malden Police Department is organizing a memorial walk and run at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Lake Quannapowitt to honor Lt. Scott Carroll, who died on Nov. 3, 2024, after serving 24 years with the force.
The memorial event aims to raise $5,000 in honor of Carroll, with all proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Massachusetts.
Carroll joined the Malden Police in 2000 after serving in the Marines and held various roles, including sergeant, lieutenant, investigator, and patrol supervisor. He was a member of specialized units such as the Criminal Investigation Division, Special Operations Unit, and Crisis Negotiations Team.
Outside of his professional role, Carroll was passionate about physical fitness. He participated in events such as Special Olympics, torch runs, road races, and polar plunges.
“Through his leadership and compassion, he touched countless lives,” the department said in a statement shared with the Patch of Malden. “He wasn't just a colleague. He was a true friend, mentor, and a beloved member of our department whom we dearly miss.”
